Tips and transfer stations in Melbourne's north

Where to take a car boot or trailer load yourself, what each one takes, and when it's free.

Checked 3 November 2026. Council fees and rules change, so check the source before you go.

Bolinda Road, Campbellfield (Hume)

Hume's Bolinda Road Resource Recovery Centre is at 71 Bolinda Road, Campbellfield, phone (03) 9359 3813. It's open 8am to 4pm, 7 days, and closed on ANZAC Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Card only, no cash.

  • Fees from 1 August 2026 for Hume residents: $36 a car boot of mixed rubbish, $122 a standard single axle trailer, $200 a standard tandem trailer. Non-residents pay $45, $150 and $250.
  • Free in household amounts: scrap metal and whitegoods, e-waste, car and household batteries, empty BBQ gas bottles, motor oil up to 10 L, fluoro tubes, and paint up to 100 L.
  • Not taken: asbestos, household chemicals, fuel, food waste, liquids, and clean fill.

Hume Clean Days

On Hume Clean Days residents can drop off couches, mattresses and tyres (up to 15 in total) and up to 4 cubic metres of garden clippings free, at Bolinda Road and Sunbury. They run on the first weekend of March, June, September and December. The next one is 5 and 6 December 2026, 8am to 4pm. Bring proof you live in Hume. No trucks or commercial loads.

Wollert landfill (for Whittlesea)

The City of Whittlesea doesn't run a tip. It sends residents to the privately run Heidelberg Materials landfill on Bridge Inn Road, Wollert, phone 03 9408 1299. The council and the operator list different opening hours, so call before you go.

  • Whittlesea residents get a yearly set of disposal vouchers: one general waste, four green waste, four timber and two brick and rubble. Bring the voucher and ID with a Whittlesea address.
  • Mattresses are taken for a fee. Paint and gas bottles are not.

Darebin tip, Reservoir

Darebin's Resource Recovery Centre is at 30 Kurnai Avenue, Reservoir, open 7 days, 8am to 3pm. It takes mattresses ($37 each), BBQ gas bottles up to 9 kg ($12) and paint up to 100 L free with the label on.

Before you load up

  • Separate it at home: metal, e-waste and green waste are cheaper or free when they're not mixed in with rubbish.
  • Cover and strap your load. Things falling off a trailer count as littering.
  • Hume's resident vouchers can't be used for commercial loads, even with the resident's OK.

Rather not hire a trailer and queue? We'll take it for you, and text you the tip receipt.
