Where to drop off e-waste in Melbourne's north
In Victoria, anything with a plug, battery or cord can't go in your rubbish bin or to landfill. Here's where it goes instead.
Checked 3 November 2026. Council fees and rules change, so check the source before you go.
The rule
Since 2019 it's been illegal in Victoria to put e-waste in household rubbish or landfill (vic.gov.au). That covers TVs, computers, phones, appliances, power tools and anything else with a plug, battery or cord.
City of Whittlesea
Free for Whittlesea residents at the Wollert landfill, 55 Bridge Inn Road (03 9408 1299), and SRS Metals, 304 Mahoneys Road, Thomastown (03 9357 3900). Whittlesea's hard rubbish doesn't take e-waste (Whittlesea).
Hume
Any e-waste is free in household amounts at the Bolinda Road and Sunbury tips. Small items can go to the Hume Global Learning Centres in Broadmeadows, Craigieburn and Sunbury. Solar panels, e-scooters and e-bikes cost extra (Hume). Hume's hard waste collection also takes e-waste with the batteries out.
Merri-bek
Computers, TVs and printers can go free to Harvey Norman at 121 Bell Street, Preston. Phones, chargers, cameras and vapes go in the recycling stations at the Coburg, Brunswick and Glenroy customer service centres (Merri-bek). Booked hard waste takes e-waste too.
Or we take it
We carry out old TVs, computers and appliances and take them to an e-waste drop-off or scrap metal recycling. See appliance and e-waste removal.
